Problem Statement

If a rocket-powered sled is accelerated to a speed of 400 m/s in 2 seconds, then what is the acceleration and what is the distance that the sled travels?

Solution

Acceleration a = (v-u)/t = (400 – 0)/2 = 200 m/s²


Distance travelled by the sled S = ut + ½ a t²

As u = 0, the equation becomes    S = ½ a t²

S = ½ .200. 2² = 400 m
