Problem Statement

An airplane accelerates down a runway at 4 m/s² for 30s until is finally lifts off the ground. Determine the distance traveled before takeoff.

Solution

S = ut + ½ a t²
as u = 0, the equation becomes    S = ½ a t² 
a = 4 m/s²  
t = 30 secs

So the distance travelled = ½ . 4. 30² = 1800 m
